Statement of Commitment to Child Safety
Newcastle Youth Orchestra Inc is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for all children and young people involved in our programs. We have zero tolerance for child abuse and are dedicated to protecting children from harm.
We pledge to:
1. Prioritise the safety and well-being of children and young people above all else.
2. Foster a culture of openness that encourages children, parents, and staff to raise concerns about child safety.
3. Implement rigorous screening and recruitment practices for all staff and volunteers.
4. Provide regular training on child safety to all staff, volunteers, and board members.
5. Empower children by involving them in decisions that affect their safety and experience in the organisation.
6. Respect and promote the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
7. Ensure the safety and inclusion of children living with disability.
8. Regularly review and improve our child safety practices and policies.
9. Promptly responding to and reporting any allegations or concerns of child harm.
10. Comply with all relevant legislation and regulations regarding child safety in New South Wales and Australia.
We recognise that creating a child-safe environment is an ongoing process that requires continuous commitment and vigilance from all members of our organisation.
